Incidental music for Bad Girls TV series, plus individual commissioned songs for both Bad Girls and Waterloo Road.
Incidental music and commissioned songs for Bad Girls and Waterloo Road
Bad Girls Incidental Music
I co-wrote (with Michael Walton) the incidental music for Series 2-5 of the award winning drama Bad Girls on TV. The show was broadcast in over 100 territories worldwide and continues to find new fans, with current re-runs on CBS Action and the ever popular box sets.
Bad Girls Cabaret
A particular favourite moment was the cabaret song I had to write especially for Shell Dockley to perform in an Amsterdam nightclub for the opening of Series 5 – riding a giant ‘cock’ and about to give Fenner bad dreams again…
Waterloo Road Choir
For Waterloo Road I was commissioned to write the entries for the Schools Choir Competition that was the finale of Series Four. The storyline was that the schools had written their own entries, so the brief was for something nerdy and self-satisfied to be sung by their biggest rivals at the “posh” school Forest Mount, who were used to winning hands down – “I Believe In Me”. And then a song for the convent girls with lyrics that could be open to mis-interpretaion – “Give Yourself To Me” – yet safe enough to go over the heads of the nuns! And finally the song for the Waterloo Road choir had to start out with one set of lyrics (which turn out to have been plagiarised) – and end up with a replacement set that were supposed to be cobbled together by the choir on the day of the final itself – “One True Family”.
Another commission for Waterloo Road was to come up with some songs for their fictional end of term musical “Parkside Story”. It was the culmination of the Mika/Brett love story and had to parallel their own love across the divide story of working class girl and posh boy with disapproving parents.
